Brass Door Knobs

Since I have been working in interior design, one of my favourite things to do is to install brass door knobs onto all of the interior doors in the house. Part of the reason for this is that brass is the most wonderful metal to work with, since it is not only cheap to buy and to produce but also it can be made into the most beautiful looking brass door knobs for your house. Where you previously used wooden door knobs in your home, I would suggest making the reasonably priced switch over to brass.

Not only can brass door knobs be used on the connecting doors between your house – they can also be used on cabinets, wardrobes and all kinds of things (basically anything that opens by using a handle or a knob). Part of the reason I am so enthusiastic about brass knobs is because due to the texture of them they can be given a variety of different finishes and sheens so that they can match any style or theme that you have in your house (or in the particular room where they’re being displayed). While most people think brass door knobs only come in the ‘classic’ brass finish, they also come in other finishes such as polished chrome, brushed nickel, bronzed and antique brass. This gives you an amazing amount of variety and means that you can mix and match until you find the perfect combinations of door knobs to match the rest of your room and your doors or cabinets.

You might not realise it, but the simple act of replacing an old door knob (or two) with a new set of brass door knobs can really give your home a fresh and exciting feel (as daft as that sounds) as they can really brighten up a room with their immediate presence. Just remember, however, that brass door knobs are not the ‘magic pill’ of home design in that they will not last forever. Just like any other kind of knob or handle that you might have already, they will eventually get scratched over time and show the usually wear and tear that others will invariably do (or already might do, in some people’s cases). This is not something that you should excessively worry about, however, as doing so will only prove to drive you mad and will only lead to unnecessary stress and pain (when they finally do become scratched or damaged). Instead, realise that nothing lasts forever and simply enjoy it while it lasts (you can always get a new set of brass door knobs when it does happen, anyway!)

If you do decide to install a set of brass door knobs on the drawers of a cabinet in your house, always remember to make sure that every single knob is perfectly aligned with one another. I can’t stress this point enough, as having misaligned brass knobs looks incredibly bad and is something that can be prevented with a bit of careful planning and patient work.
