Cabinet Door Handles
Building a home is a lot like building a car. There are lots of different pieces that, when all put together properly (assuming that they are the correct pieces) work in perfect harmony and allow you to drive around. In this example, substitute the pieces of that car for items that make up your home, such as cabinet door handles. I have chosen to focus in on cabinet door handles in this analogy because that’s what this site is about, but it could be anything. When you have the right handles on your cabinets, and the right cabinets that match your wallpaper, you’re in business, and your house will feel much more like a home and it’ll be a place that you really enjoy and want to spend time in which is exactly what you want from your home (who’d have thought buying a set of cabinet handles could do all this!?).
So when you are choosing the cabinet door handles that will adorn your lovely home’s cabinets, you need to factor all of these things in mind. You need to think about how they will fit in with the style of the room and with the overall theme of your home (if you care that much about them, that is). For many people, however, they just want cabinet door handles that don’t cost too much and that are reliably made (so they won’t have to go out and buy another set in a year’s time). Most people would prefer to spend a little bit of extra money getting the right cabinet handles so that they don’t have to expend any more energy or thought on the matter (which you’ll have to do if you need to replace them). For this reason, buying cabinet door handles is more a matter of practicality than of art and design. That being said, you can have both (if you’re prepared to do your homework to find out what makes a good set of cabinet door handles different from a bad set, and if you’re prepared to shop around to find the cheapest available prices).
People often go out and buy cabinet door handles when they have just installed a new cabinet in their home, since many cabinets these days don’t actually come with a set of handles. This is annoying in the way that you have to spend extra money to buy them, but it is good because you can get any kind that you like fitted (as in the old days cabinet handles were notoriously hard to remove if they came pre-assembled to the drawers). If you find yourself in this situation, make sure that you never rush the installation process. Get yourself a large piece of chalk so that you can measure out and mark the same spot where each of your cabinet door handles needs to go on, as there’s nothing worse than a set of drawers or a cabinet with handles at different heights (as it looks a total mess).
